Sgt. Kirk Smith (Director and Lead Instructor of MTS) is a 37 year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department, spending most of his career in Metropolitan Division. During his career he was one of a dozen supervisors in Metro who developed the Mobile Field Force program in 1992 out of the ashes of the Los Angeles Riots.
Kirk continued as the primary trainer for the department in Mobile Field Force tactics and operations, crowd management, crowd control, Less Lethal and Special Impact Munitions, and has trained well over 20K officers inside and outside of LAPD, including personnel from the Army and Marine Corps.
In addition to his comprehensive experience and expertise in Crowd Control, he also has extensive experience in Dignitary Protection, Surveillance, and Special Event Planning and Security including the Academy Awards, Prime Time Emmys, Screen Actors Guild Awards, and ESPN's ESPY awards.
